Becconsall U3A visited the Old Dock Experience at the Merseyside Maritime Museum on the 16th of May. A group of twelve were given a guided tour round the remains of the world’s first wet dock. It is now located beneath Liverpool One and it was an amazing experience to see it. It was organised and led by Bill Hall and after an introduction by two members of the museum staff, the group were taken underground to view the remains of a small portion of the dock that can now be viewed by the public. This dock was the essentially the birthplace of Liverpool as we know it now and there are links to the Tarleton family after whom Tarleton is apparently named. It was a brilliant visit that was finished off with an excellent lunch at the Pump House on Albert Dock. Well done Bill…..next?
