A red carpet outing

Twenty seven members of Becconsall U3A met up at Riley Green for a very enjoyable evening Cream Tea cruise on the MV Romance.

Having walked down the red carpet onto the boat, we were welcomed on board by the staff and once seated, we were soon underway. We were quickly offered drinks and the scenery around us was gentle and beautiful but attention soon turned to the feast that was delivered to our tables. This was a serious cream tea with sandwiches, rolls, quiche, pies, salad, scones, with cream and jam of course, and cakes. No one was able to eat everything that was provided and doggy bags were the order of the day.

On the Leeds Liverpool Canal, we initially cruised towards Preston before turning heading the other way through beautiful scenery. There is always something very peaceful about cruising on a canal and this was no exception. After two hours we were back at Riley Green but no one wanted to get off the boat but eventually we did. It was a fantastic trip which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and there was much discussion of doing it again or even organising an evening meal. So it looks like we may be doing again next year….those of you who gave it a miss this time might want to come along next time. If you do, you will be in for a real treat.
