Visiting the Atkinson

The History group visited the Atkinson in Lord Street,Southport on Monday May 9th. We were shown around the permanent display, Between Land and Sea-10,000 years of Sefton’s coast, which tells the story of the many people who have lived and worked along our coast from prehistoric times to the present day, showcasing the development of Sefton’s towns of Southport and Birkdale. The outstanding habitats from Marshside to Formby point.

We were then given time to wander around the EGYPTOLOGY GALLERY to “Discover ancient Egypt”.

We then had coffee or tea and delicious homemade cakes in the theatre bar.

Following this we went through the art gallery into the exhibition which is on until Sunday 10th July, called Lord Street: Past Present and Future. If you have not yet seen it we would highly recommend it. It’s a chance to see a wide range of material including archive photographs, architectural plans, costumes and film. Exploring the heritage and telling the fascinating stories of Lord Street.
